ISTORIA

The name of the Library, that before was " Santa Ana ", recently was modified, the 26 of November of 1996, in a tribute that the Center paid to his founder and present president, in gratefulness to all a life dedicated to the culture and the education. In that act, that was a secret jealously kept for the galardoned, Don Feliciano Correa, who remembered in its speech the gestation of the Library back in the Sixties, and said: " removing earth underneath the buildings we made a library underground, in a dangerous project of reinforcements and mess designed by Juan Antonio García Bote. Where before it had earth for the grow of plants letters for the culture of the mind are piled up ".

Today, staying in the same location, with the evident enjoyed extensions, had his always growth, it is the great library deprived to the service of all, with 3800 readers, who can enjoy all the advantages that offer the public libraries: ample schedule in the reading room, loan, and helps and guides in the searches thanks to the work of the librarians. This year is project of the Library to facilitate to the user the encounter with the book, and to do it through the computerized network of cataloguing that until the moment is only of internal use for the librarians.

ESCRIPCION

The number of registered books ascends to the 110,000 volumes, which increases its importance, since it is located in a locality of 27,000 inhabitants (4 volumes by inhabitant). In addition the hemeroteca counts on 1,600 national and foreign heads of magazines, newspapers and bulletins. To it unites the fact of being the second library of the world in authors, subjects and Extremadura editings, 31,000 books and 475 heads of bulletins, newspapers and magazines of the Independent Community.

But the true merit of " Library IX Marques de la Encomienda " is the one that does not receive any aid for its maintenance, and never has counted with her. It only has the interest, the delivery and the money of his promoter for his growth, conservation and use.

" Library IX Marqués de la Encomienda " has an independent reading room to the microfilmed files, that ascend to 13,000 in books from Extremadura, 2,000,000 of documents related to Extremadura (notarial, parochial, genealogical) and 300 newspapers and magazines of the region.

Very nourished it is the bibliographical collection of the Library, because not in vain his founder is skillful connoisseur of the matter, disciple of Rodriguez Moñino, and enthusiastic of bibliographical science. It can affirm that in this field the library is equipped with the most important collection of Extremadura.

IBLIOTECA PIONERA

Although at this moment the microfilm labours of reproduction undergone a reduction by lack of means, are future projects in this Library that was pioneering the diffusion of the culture, of the rare or little book, through the microshooting. This collection, like the rest of the printed funds of the library, is to the service of whichever investigators or Spanish and foreign readers wish it and it does indeed that fundamental Almendralejo becomes enclave for the students of any subject related to Extremadura.

UESTRA LABOR EDITORIAL

In addition to the annual publication of Acts of the Days of Viticultura and Enología " "Tierra de Barros", Cultural Santa Ana carries out publications.
